Abdominal pain refers to discomfort or pain felt anywhere between the chest and the groin. It is very common and can range from mild cramping to severe, sharp pain. Common causes include indigestion, gas, gastritis, and menstrual cramps.

Seek immediate medical attention if the pain is sudden and severe, is located in the lower right abdomen, or is accompanied by fever, persistent vomiting, bloody stools, or inability to keep food down. For milder pain, see a doctor if it lasts more than a few days. When in doubt, consult a physician.
